-  About The Author -
Tim May  has been obsessed with anything with wheels since he could first walk. His first motorized vehicle was a 1960 Norton 500 motorcycle. Still his lifelong favorite.

After a short period working as a bank clerk he began his real job—driving trucks. That began a passion for driving heavy vehicles of all descriptions, including semi-trailers and buses for a wide variety of organizations.

On gaining his private pilot’s licence in his mid-30s he noticed that the pilot training had a significant impact upon improving his driving skill, especially with regard to hazard detection. As a result he decided to write a book about driving, combining his own driving experience with the lessons learned from aviation.

He soon realized that more research was needed. So he spent the next ten years reading everything he could find on defensive and advanced driving. He also completed the three best, advanced driving courses on offer in Australia.

He then qualified as a driving instructor, designed his own advanced driving course and began a driving school for learner drivers. This allowed him to fine-tune the advanced course with input from his students, other driving instructors, road safety authorities, police driving instructors and road safety research institutions.

In 1992 the course became the first advanced driving course in Australia to qualify participants for reduced car insurance rates. It was officially opened by Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Frank Green.

Tim's new book; "Driving Wizard®—The Ultimate Survival Driving Manual" is a pivotal development of the original course. The result of 15 years constant improvement and innovation.

Tim was a contributing editor for the “Drive for your life” video, a co-production of the Shell Company of Australia and DECA. He also contributed to the development of the “Hazard Perception Test” used by Vic Roads for licence testing.

Tim May continues to seek innovative ways of improving driving performance and reducing collision risk.
